Guest reviews for Villa 49
"The area/location is very nice and close to the main attractions. Excellent hostess/staff, excellent breakfast and excellent living/dining communal area on the main floor. Thank goodness for the fan/air conditioning! We particularly liked interacting with Shanani and learning/watching the breakfast being prepared. We even ended up having some common connections in the area!"
"The room was large, but very tired looking - particularly the furniture and curtains. There was little to no storage area for things (closet, table, desk). Same goes for the bathroom. Frankly, this does not seem unique to Villa 49 - bathrooms in many places in Sri Lanka literally have no place to keep one's toilet kit/things! We couldn't have stayed there another day because our things in the room were either on the floor or needing to be put back in our suitcases. They need a chest of drawers, or at least couple of shelves/drawers/table for things - there is certainly room for it. For the price we expected better."
"There is so much to like! A dedicated host and exceptional staff did everything to make our stay comfortable. Including satisfying breakfasts (egg hoppers, coconut rotis, homemade jams, delicious dal and great coffee), excellent dinners and arranging trips to unique temples and Ayurvedic massage, with excellent drivers. Located close to Kandy Lake and nearby restaurants. Shanani is a warm and gracious host whom my wife and I enjoyed meeting."
"The mattress on the bed was softer than we prefer."
"The views from the room were great. Our room was spacious and the bed was quite comfortable. Shanani was a great host and went out of her way to prepare a breakfast with tasty items and help arrange our transport to the Southern beaches."

"A very large and comfortable room with a medium size bed and an extra sofa bed. The room opened to a large outdoor patio overlooking the city which was very nice. An in house laundry service was available which was appreciated. The hostess was very welcoming and gracious."
"The bathroom was a bit small and in need of updating. There really was no restaurant or menu but the owner cooked breakfast of her choosing and an optional dinner of her choosing. There is a very steep staircase which for people with mobility issues could be a real problem."
"Quaint, old style as we like it. The balcony sundeck was great and saw a couple neat birds. Very relaxing"
"Could use more electrical outlets in room for charging"
"Excellent stay with a beautiful view. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Shanani cooked amazing food and I mostly ate at the villa because it was home cooked which I absolutely loved and reminded me of home. Thank you for making me feel like home. She also provided you with a driver who took me around Kandy and I saw some beautiful temples"

"Wonderful experience at Villa 49. Beautiful room and property, and fabulous hospitality. The breakfast was delicious. Cannot say enough good things about our stay!"

"Beautiful villa at the edge of the lake. We enjoyed the location a lot, from where you can easily walk along the lake to town/temple in 15min. The owner is nice and takes good care and has a few good tips. The house has a lot of charm but could use some renovations soon.. We also enjoyed a nice breakfast with homemade hoppers and home made jams, as well as a nice rice and curry."
"The only downside maybe is that there is little common area to chill/relax. For parents like us who spend the evening at the property once our kid is sleeping, it is handy to have a nice terrace or garden to enjoy."
"Travelled with my husband and 5 year old son and we were made to feel so very welcome by the hosts. Our room was large and very comfortable with good air conditioning and en suite bathroom with plenty of hot water. Breakfast in the morning was fabulous with hoppers, freshly squeezed fruit juice, plentiful choice of fresh fruit, toast and home made jam that set us up for the day. Location was perfect at the end of Kandy Lake and a 10-15 minute walk into the main Town centre. However getting a tuk tuk is really easy if you don't fancy the pleasant walk along the lake. Shenani organised a tuk tuk to collect us from the station on the first day, tickets to the Cultural show, tuk tuk tour of the area and a taxi for our onward travels. She was so accommodating and full of helpful tips to make the most of our 3 night stay. We would happily stay here again."
"Nothing - we loved it all!"
"A welcoming guesthouse, with the best possible owners and staff. This isn’t a polished hotel experience, but rather a cozy guesthouse, and the room had everything you’d need, felt very safe, and was in a pleasantly quiet part of town easy to access the lakeshore path to walk along into the city center. I didn’t eat here, but the lovely owner offered to make me a snack when I arrived, and then in the morning, made me a delicious pot of tea before I departed — based on the quality of the tea, I wish I’d tried her cooking as well! Overall, a nice base for exploring the city."

"My wife and I stayed here for two nights. The location is great, right next to Yala National Park. The huts are hand-built, made of clay, living in them is a unique experience. The host is very kind and friendly, helps in any way he can, we are very grateful to him for that and are glad that we met! 😊 The host also prepared some delicious traditional food for us. He will also help with organizing a safari, and can take you around the area himself and tell you interesting stories!"

"I can’t put into words just how beautiful and spectacular this place is. Honestly WOW! My rooms that had over 15 foot ceilings, everything made of stone, fans and air conditioning, the nature surrounding us, the Pool and the hotel grounds, the warm and amazing staff! My stay was short and I regret not staying longer. Just AMAZING and also the owner was there to answer all my questions and last minute demands. Don’t forget to tip the staff because they go over and beyond for you."
