Campgrounds in Costa Rica

"I just loved the concept of tipi in the forest. Very clean camping area, big forest surrounding the campground, lots of birds and of course the lovely semois by my feet. It’s also a family camping so as a solo traveler you feel pretty safe."

The “insolite” part, you aren’t quite insolite, other tipis were in use by families with children running around and shouting. This was a bit tiring since I hoped to be in a calmer area. But you manage, I was out hiking the whole day and at night I set up my bbq while the kids slept. Only early mornings were hard - at the same time the birds were as loud as the kids 😂

"The camping is an amazing green, natural location, where you can enjoy the nature at its fullest. Yves and Malika are very kindhearted and welcoming people, that gave us a feeling of immediately feeling welcome. The tents/beds are comfortable, although the strong winds let it shake strongly, but everything went well. You can make a nice hike down to the river."

In the morning we had no electricity and that is quite necessary for charging phones. There was only one warm cover and one sofa set, which makes it difficult to use when there are also other people around. An extra sofa and some extra warm covers would come in handy, while it is quite fresh at night.

"Very clean and practical facilities, covered outside eating area, kitchen supplied with all tools nedded, great vegetables and local produce to buy, very calm and cosy"

"Malý rodinný kemp. Majitel příjemný, ochotný. Večer posezení u pivka, kdo chtěl, tak i s večeří. Bazén k dispozici večer i ráno. Naprostý klid a uvolnění. Spali jsme ve svém autě. K snídani vejce, uzeniny, sýr, rajče.. vše domácí a naprosto úžasná švestková marmeláda."

Záchody a sprchy v kabinkách vedle sebe, ale čisté.

"What was most striking was the communal spirit which was celebrated among the guests. You're not just staying in your hut, you are having breakfast and dinner together and exchange experiences. The octopus dish for dinner was fantastic. Coffee is readily available. Water, beer, and soft drinks for sale at fair prices. While the owner was away, the temporary host did a great job managing and making everyone feel included and informed. There is a viewing platform of the Pico. The beach is crossed by a river from where you also have a great vantage point. Needs to be low tide to cross. Love the outdoor showers. Thanks to solar panels, there is always electricity. Good distance to Porto Alegre for visiting Ilhéu das Rolas as a day trip. They can arrange for a hike to the base of the Pico."

For a couple like us, there is only the choice between a two person hut without attached bathroom or a four person hut with. We really wanted to have an attached toilet, so we had to book a four person hut which is of course quite more expensive. It would have been ideal to have a two person hut, small is OK, but with attached toilet. Shower wouldn't even be necessary, because we preferred the outdoor showers. Just a toilet and small sink would be enough. There is internet, but it's less reliable than other reviewers painted it to be. It's one small pocket router for the whole premise. During the day it was in the main hut and at night in guest huts, but never close enough to our hut. Still for São Tomé and far away from any towns, it was quite decent.

"Thvaj you so muhc Cacao bamboo team! A nature and bird watchers paradise. So peaceful. And everyone was so friendly and I enjoyed yummy family meals. I had a lovely stay and lots of doggy cuddles too. I really loved the bamboo hut too a the stunning spot Good luck wiht it all and love the bamboo and cacao projects 💜 Katie x"

Maybe slightly bigger more comfy hammocks would make it even more blissful. OK for smaller people! 😅

"The possibility to be in a quiet environment and surround by amazing scenery. BBQ place is great, to cook a stake in fire. The homes are spacious and warm inside."

The bathtub was a small one, considering all the extra space they have. Could have put a normal bathtub. Also the sofa was extremely old.

"This was a very comfortable modern house like a tiny home but felt spacious. Kids loved sleeping in the loft. It was warm and inviting. The setting is lovely on a river with some small falls. I imagine Iin summer the outdoor bbq area would be very nice. We had a very comfortable night. Free onsen was nice although glad no one else there as it was tiny."

The location is quite far from the train so you need a taxi. The taxi drivers seemed put out to go there she it cost us about $40. Also far from a shop. So bring food or have a car. I like an onsen but it was very tiny. It would be nicer outdoors by the river.

The bed in my cabin could've been more comfortable. Not too bad though.

"Staff are helpful, friendly, and accommodating. Food servings are in large portion that I struggle to finish it."

The shower exhaust fan was weak, so after a hot shower there will be water condensation everywhere in the bathroom.

"The villa setup, the swimming pools (especially for our daughters), being 7 to 10 minutes walk from the beach and the shops, but especially the owners (Mr. & Mrs. Moorghen). They are exceptional hosts and everything in their bungalow is touched with thoughtfulness. Thank you so much for your kindness and hospitality. In essence with a family of 8, the four room villa was ideal and cosy. A home away from home comfy feel."

I asked my daughters. One thing they did not like... Time to go back home. 😛

"location very convenient. can you prepare meal or used at affordable restaurant at city 600 metres away."

The place is convenient to every type of visitors.

"Close to the beach. Lovely house. Camping with good facilities."

The train every half an hour on 2 meters from our windows. The fence is not so high (safety?!). Also the busy road between the camping and the beach is dangerous. Lots of kids crossing that road. A tunnel would be solution.
