"One of great hotels in the world, and that’s not hyperbole. In the 32 years that Geoffrey Bawa designed this masterpiece integrating the forest, sky and water, the service has become even better. You don’t have to wait for coffee or tea, or to have a plate magically whisked away at the fabulous restaurant. Although it was a buffet and no tips were expected I felt like I had to—at every meal. The food was top of the line, even better than a few years ago, a balance between east and west. The views from every room are spectacular but pay a little extra to stay in the Sigiriya wing. But the common areas are so magical you won’t want to linger in your room. Although we come regularly, we’ve never tried the excursions. The nature walk (ok, it’s a hike straight up through the forest) and birdwatching barge were magical. How much you wonder? Seven friggin dollars for an hour and a half! Yes the half board rate keep creating but but they don’t nickel and dime you."
