Boats in the Dominican Republic

"Very handy location. Boat well appointed with everything you could need: toilet, small shower, galley with all facilities (except a wooden spoon!). Bed comfortable with cosy bedding. Lounge and dining areas separate with a good amount of room, for two at least."

Being a bit inexperienced at staying on boats it took us a while to fine tune the way we used things but hey, life’s a learning experience. Hot water did run out but easily overcome and, with a bit of communication, eventually fixed up. It’s a boat, not a 5 star Hilton; these things happen.

"I loved the atmosphere. The staff were always so kind. Breakfast was incredibly delicious every time! The room was clean, comfortable and very warm. I had an amazing experience!"

I just wish the rooms had slippers, unfortunately they didn't provide any. It was a little hard because of that. But still didn't change any of the good facts about the place :)

"I have just spent the most amazing 3 nights on the Grand Swan, one of 3 beautiful 5 Star Houseboats in this small group, located in a great position on Lake Dal. The rooms are very well presented and very comfortable. The food is freshly prepared and very tasty. The chef made sure the food was to my liking, and there was plenty of it, The staff went above and beyond to make sure i got the most out of my short stay. Mr Ahmed the manager arranged some trips for me including a not to be missed tour of the lake. A special thanks to Mr Shabam, who did everything from bringing me coffee in the morning to accompanying me on a magical trip to the mountains, where his local knowledge and friends made this a trip I will never forget and got to meet the local people. I can highly recommend staying here whether you are travelling by yourself, with friends or with family. I am already planning my return"

"Our family of five had a wonderful stay at this charming boathouse. While the space is compact, it was thoughtfully designed and the bedding was comfortable. Storage was our only real challenge, as fitting luggage for five proved tricky — though we admittedly didn’t pack light. The kitchen was well equipped with everything needed for light cooking, and the water pressure in the shower was excellent. Hot water was plentiful but limited in duration, so shorter showers worked best. Overall, it was a delightful and memorable experience — a unique stay that combined comfort with a touch of adventure."

"Unbeatable view. We saw a herd of caribou on the mountain to the east of the glacier. Our boat driver was wonderful."

I love the extremity of this place. Along with that came a couple of risks that concerned me. Reliance on a digital keypad lock if you’re on the deck and the door blows closed. No emergency radio. Icy water and no shelter on land even if you swam to shore. Also, we were told to use the provided phone number to call only if there was a true emergency. I honored that but therefore had no help when the water stopped working. Cryptic printed instructions did not help us get it working again (and I work on pump systems as part of my career). None of this ruined our enjoyment of this stunningly beautiful location.

"Amazing couple Paul and Daniela touring us around for three days with incredibly nice food from both , lots of stories and a unique itinerary to also see the non tourist areas! We met local kunas , snorkeled , swam and went to the nicest bar on one of the islands"

The trip to San Blas is an adventure :-) and the water was wet ( inside joke from Paul )

"The location is very good,, 7 minutes to nearest tram. Breakfast was amazing, Room amenities very basic nothing fancy. Try to book a room with a view on the open water,, not street side. Heater in room was very good."
