"The Sailboat Ragamuffin is a unique experience. You are staying in a sailboat moored off of Water Island, where your hosts live after sailing the Caribbean for 30 years. They are a font of information and anecdotes about the US virgin islands and others. Jo is an accomplished chef and strives to give you the food types you desire. They pick you up by dinghy on the Crown Marina dock, and will take you by dinghy over to Water Island. In my case, I had two berths (bedrooms and bathrooms) on the boat, rocked to sleep by the rolling of the boat on the water. Don't miss going to water island, golf cart to Limestone Beach (coral reef) and Honeymoon Beach (the latter has turtles swimming around)"

The listing didn't make it quite clear what the accommodation would be - it described an apartment and a pool view. I thought it might be a houseboat on a dock. The pool view is the sea around the boat!

"I have just spent the most amazing 3 nights on the Grand Swan, one of 3 beautiful 5 Star Houseboats in this small group, located in a great position on Lake Dal. The rooms are very well presented and very comfortable. The food is freshly prepared and very tasty. The chef made sure the food was to my liking, and there was plenty of it, The staff went above and beyond to make sure i got the most out of my short stay. Mr Ahmed the manager arranged some trips for me including a not to be missed tour of the lake. A special thanks to Mr Shabam, who did everything from bringing me coffee in the morning to accompanying me on a magical trip to the mountains, where his local knowledge and friends made this a trip I will never forget and got to meet the local people. I can highly recommend staying here whether you are travelling by yourself, with friends or with family. I am already planning my return"

May crew members could explain to other people when it is appropriate or not to throw paper in bad room and which is the system of the boat.

"Great peaceful location with a beautiful view. Staying on this yacht with a caracter was really unique experience. The host was very nice. Parking in front of the marina was convenient."

"A different place to stay. A wood cabin but with all facilities such as fridge, single ring cooker, air conditioning, huge varanda with room for a dining table and chairs plus recliner chairs and a washing rack. Wonderful views of the Duero river. Pick up the train (one kilometre walk away) to Pinhao - 30 minute journey along the edge of the river-for food shopping and long, lazy lunches or to Porto for a day out. Rail fares in Portugal are very cheap and half price if over 65!"

A request: a reading light in the dining room/lounge area

"Unbeatable view. We saw a herd of caribou on the mountain to the east of the glacier. Our boat driver was wonderful."

I love the extremity of this place. Along with that came a couple of risks that concerned me. Reliance on a digital keypad lock if you’re on the deck and the door blows closed. No emergency radio. Icy water and no shelter on land even if you swam to shore. Also, we were told to use the provided phone number to call only if there was a true emergency. I honored that but therefore had no help when the water stopped working. Cryptic printed instructions did not help us get it working again (and I work on pump systems as part of my career). None of this ruined our enjoyment of this stunningly beautiful location.

"I loved the atmosphere. The staff were always so kind. Breakfast was incredibly delicious every time! The room was clean, comfortable and very warm. I had an amazing experience!"

I just wish the rooms had slippers, unfortunately they didn't provide any. It was a little hard because of that. But still didn't change any of the good facts about the place :)

"Our stay on the Yathra Houseboat will always stay in our minds and hearts. This is our second time within 3 years. We had a vacation of our life with all the comfort and pampering by the staff on the boat. The cruise on the river provided rare glimpse of few exotic birds and a large group of monkeys. The narrations by the Manager of the Dedduwa Boat House about those birds were very informative. The Skipper was kind enough to stop along the river bank to watch the birds closely and take photographs. The candle-lit dinner and the night spend on the upper deck was simply magical. The next day my husband even managed catch some fish while cruising. The staff arranged them to be prepared for our lunch and that dish was out of this world. The staff went an extra mile to make us happy. The bedrooms and the facilities on board were above standard. This is the best destination we spend while in Sri Lanka. Keep it up Yathra and we will back again next year."
