"The room was quite large and comfortable. The location and building was very relaxing. Definitely take advantage of the bikes and ride around the neighborhood. There is a great supermarket and a couple of awesome restaurants close by. The host was very kind!"

It is quite far from the city. So if you want to be in the city, then this is not the place to be. For one of the breakfasts, we got a big box of cookies and a banana. It would’ve been nice if we got some real food.

Not much. I think that for a single person the value is great.

"Very nice and special place, 15 min from the town (it's a beautiful walk along the beach). Placed tight at the beach. Very beautiful common areas with a great unique vibe. Eggs, onions and garlic for cooking available, coffee too. Andres is always around, very nice and helpful. Great atmosphere. Beautiful stars in the night."

You can only charge your electronic devices if you give them to Andres (which is easy enough though because he is around a lot). And it's understandable given the location of the hostel.

"The property has a very good location, you can ski to the center and to the foot of the mountain. It is very clean and spacious, we booked two apartments and we are very satisfied with them. Wifi is okay, it works nicely. There’s parking and kitchen and two bathrooms and a toilet in those two apartments."

The owner was with us at the house, and he wanted to help us with the snow around our cars, but we didn’t always feel comfortable around him. He was cheerful and kind man sometimes, but sometimes he made unnecessary comments which were not needed in this type of situation since we are the guests there.

"I enjoyed the stay here, thanks to the friendly and welcoming people and encounters with authentic lakeside life. The local style food was a highlight, especially the grilled butterfish from Lake Malawi, which was cooked perfectly right in front of my eyes. I really appreciated the clear instructions for arriving by public transport — getting there from Lilongwe turned out to be an interesting local experience in itself and made the journey feel much more connected to everyday Malawi life. While the property itself has - as the name says - a mainstream design and does not strongly reflect local character, there are plenty of authentic places to explore nearby. With the help of a local motorbike driver, I visited Lifuwu fishing village, which was lively, genuine and worth seeing. Overall, a comfortable lakeside stay with good food, helpful staff and great opportunities to get to know real Malawi just beyond the property!"

Als ik persé iets zou moeten noemen, is het het ontbreken van een kraan en wasbak in het keukenblok. Creatief met afwassen, door vullen van de aanwezige teil met de waterkoker, die je in de badkamer met een kommetje moet vullen, omdat hij niet onder de kraan past 😁 Maar goed, ik vond het zelf gewoon prima zo.

There was a pee smell. Probably, from a prior guest. However, the place seemed very clean besides the smell.

"The place is a bit more than 1 km from the main road and it is easy to walk there. The room has comfortable bed, fan and also a table suitable for working. The hosts (2 sisters) are very kind. There is a takeaway food shop quite close (in front of the college)."

The wall between my room and room of the owner is from wood, so people can hear each other.

I loved the property except it took a while for the living room area to cool down due to the AC only being in the bedrooms

"Kevin was a helpful and informative host . He is also a good cook , delivering large portions of food at mealtimes . The house is a pretty cottage in a nice setting ."

I struggled to get hot water in the shower for a while . The road nearby is quiet which is good for sleeping but not so good for public transport .

Not much. I think that for a single person the value is great.

"The hosts are the most welcoming and nice people. They are very friendly, helping and responsive. We felt very welcomed here. The room was very nice with vintage furniture that has this wonderful specific scent of a vintage furniture. Wonderfully decorated, the room and the kitchen create very warm feeling. Anna Christina was even willing to help us with the breakfast and charged very generously for it. And her husband helped me with the luggage because I damaged my back recently. Thank you so much for your help and hospitality!"

"Beautiful, clean and an amazing place to stay which is well worth the price. The property is located in the middle of the island, close to shops, restaurants and bakeries. Mrs. St. Rose is warm and courteous and answered all my questions, she even gave me a tour of the many fruit trees that she has on property. In speaking with her, I found out that there is a 2 bedroom apartment on the premises as well and I was allowed to see it. Now this apartment is stunning, so huge that it can fit at least 8ppl and it has air-conditioning. The property also has a generator which is a plus, this is nice to know for my next trip with my family. I am extremely glad that I did my research and found this place. It is definitely a 10 out of 10."

And what a beautiful garden! We had some great conversations about the plants that I was seeing and about his recommendations for the best things to do in the city. I was glad that I took his advice. "Everyone in Paea's family was so warm and friendly! We were immediately welcomed and made to feel at home. The room was private, and the strong fan kept us cool. The home is a short walk to the beach, and we enjoyed walking along the waterfront into town. It was far from city nose and peaceful at night. 'Ofa and Saffron picked us up from the airport, waited while we bought phone data, drove us to a market for produce, and then drove us to the store for other food before helping us get settled in. 'Ofa drove us back to the airport when we left and offered to stop anywhere we wanted to see as well. They are wonderful people. -Denise and David"

The airport ride cost is not posted online before booking (100 TOP each way), but taking everything into account, the cost seems reasonable; the family is willing to get you what you need in town, and they are lovely to talk with on the way. The airport is 40 minutes away even without any stops. Still, if you are a visitor on a tighter budget, you may want to find somewhere closer to the airport. (This wasn't something we "didn't like" but rather something we thought we would mention for visitors who may not know transportation in Tonga can be pricey.)
