"Malaki and his family were great hosts! Very helpful and friendly. Sorted out lots of things for us with no fuss, even though we booked last minute and had limited planning. We had some good laughs! Good view of volcano, and hear the rumbling! Simple and authentic ni-Van accommodation."

Malaki still had a few things to finish... eg switching for solar lights and some plumbing... but we were 2nd guests, so it will be more complete for next guests

Lovely views across the mountains and also down to the lake. Easy walk down to the lake with a nice hotel/restaurant and even a small supermarket at the bottom of the road. About another 20 minutes into the town itself, along the footpath. So great location; peaceful and quiet without the Bled town crowds and traffic."

The hot water system will drive you mad - if, like us, you were brought up not to waste water! And bring your own shower gel etc.

"Everyone in Paea's family was so warm and friendly! We were immediately welcomed and made to feel at home. The room was private, and the strong fan kept us cool. The home is a short walk to the beach, and we enjoyed walking along the waterfront into town. It was far from city nose and peaceful at night. 'Ofa and Saffron picked us up from the airport, waited while we bought phone data, drove us to a market for produce, and then drove us to the store for other food before helping us get settled in. 'Ofa drove us back to the airport when we left and offered to stop anywhere we wanted to see as well. They are wonderful people. -Denise and David"

The airport ride cost is not posted online before booking (100 TOP each way), but taking everything into account, the cost seems reasonable; the family is willing to get you what you need in town, and they are lovely to talk with on the way. The airport is 40 minutes away even without any stops. Still, if you are a visitor on a tighter budget, you may want to find somewhere closer to the airport. (This wasn't something we "didn't like" but rather something we thought we would mention for visitors who may not know transportation in Tonga can be pricey.)

Not really any downside about the accommodation. A car is needed as you cant really walk from there into town, but there is on-site parking and taxi services.

"This is an excellent small guesthouse and the hosts are extremely friendly and helpful. Everything was clean and comfortable. The area is very quiet and Bahir Dar is one of the most beautiful cities in Africa. The hosts, Ashenafi and Habtamu, showed us around and made us feel very welcome."

This is a new guesthouse and they are still getting all the facitilties that a western tourist would expect, but everything important was there including shower, cooking facilities, chairs and tables in the patio and a barbeque!

"Beautiful house and garden. Lot of trees. Nice pool. Room was comfortable. Back up generator for powercuts was great. Quiet area, close to the sea. Nice owner."

When arrive, bed sheets were used. We needed to change them ourselves. No cleaning servise. The mainhouse kitchen was only allowed for small cooking like eggs. If wanted to cook food, needed to go outside kitchen. There was no fan or pots, all needed to take there from main kitchen. Very unconvinient and hot to cook there. We were accused from staff and other customer stealing her mobile. Phone was found in her room where she had put it under her blanket. That really upset us. Owners were nice thou and apologize us.

"Dudy was such a pleasure to stay with and I highly recommend booking with him. He graciously let me drop off my belongings early and pick them up after checkout so that I had extra time to explore the city. The room was spacious and I felt extremely comfortable the entire time. And what a beautiful garden! We had some great conversations about the plants that I was seeing and about his recommendations for the best things to do in the city. I was glad that I took his advice. Thank you so much for hosting me and making my trip wonderful!"
